The ORIGINAL OWNER Tudor Submariner Black Snowflake 7021

We are delighted to share with you another great ORIGINAL OWNER watch we picked up recently. Bought from a very nice lady from England and we enjoyed so much meeting her and her husband. It’s every time such a pleasure for us to hear all the stories and emotions involved in these watches. We are living in an era where many collectors only hunt for minty watches – even when it means often they are freshed-up, parts added/changed etc to match the elite standards. Here at Bulang and Sons, however, more and more we are feeling the need to step up for honest watches with soul; watches that hold the heritage and stories of their former owner. Watches that show little imperfections which are a natural result of a life as a sport watch, being serviced to keep working and keep joining the owner through its life. We feel the need to spread the love and respect for ‘real’ vintage watches and their history again.

As passionate collectors on the hunt for such watches, we are so happy and proud to be able to share these stories and hope part of the history and soul of the watch will be passed on to the new owner.

The Story of this watch

Here is the story of this vintage Tudor Snowflake Submariner reference 7021, as told to us by Grace, the daughter of the original owner. Who bought the watch new, as a real sport watch, for his adventures in life…

” The “fish picture” as I call it, was taken in about 1974/75, by my mother. That fish was huge, as you can see. We lived in Wollongong NSW Australia at the time, where my dad was born. He loved fishing, I think this one was caught near Kiama, also in NSW. As I think I said my dad was a naturally gifted sportsman and seemed to excel in whatever he attempted. Before he met my mother he also raced stock cars and won trophies.

When we moved from Wollongong to Bowral, he joined the local squash club and within months won the end of year tournament! Our new neighbour was a keen archer, something dad had never done in his life, again within a short space of time he was competing and even started an archery club. This seemed to be a bit of big deal in such a small town and we had many people coming to our house and joining in.

Dad was also a keen golfer and played off about 11, and although he did most other things with his right hand, he was a left-handed golfer! He enjoyed pistol shooting and represented NSW in competitions across Australia and won many medals.

I remember my dad being able to fix almost anything when I was a child, I don’t think I ever saw a tradesman. I don’t think I quite appreciated his skill until recently, he was also a gifted engineer and was able to repair and build things based on his own ideas. Only recently he designed and built a machine to remove farmed oysters from their housings.

My dad is definitely wearing the watch in the photo, he loved it and was immensely proud of it. I remember him telling me how special it was and that it was made by Rolex watchmakers when they were on their holidays haha! ”

We want to thank Grace for offering this watch to us and sharing the story behind it. It was such a pleasure…
