For a military watch collector, there are few things more exciting than discovering a new watch that has never seen sold on the open market. We are very excited to have unearthed a Tudor Military Submariner that has been locked away in a safe for over 20 years. Blue Tudor Submariners issued to the French Navy (Marine Nationale) are hot right now and this watch, issued by the Marine Nationale in 1977, is possibly one of the nicest ones we’ve seen. The dial and hands are perfect and the insert has faded to the most incredible shade of blue – you have to see this watch! As you would also hope to see, the backs of the lugs are unmarked, which is a sign we look for with MN watches as these watches were worn on NATO straps and so end link rub on the lug backs is rare (although some watches were put on bracelets after being bought at military auction, so never say never!).

This particular watch is from a very well known batch of MN77 watches. I have now compiled a significant database of military Tudor watches and have many within a few numbers of this watch on the database. Certain batches of watches (i.e. serial number batches) were largely reserved by Tudor for use by the military and this watch is perfectly within that group of serials. We also know the source of this watch and know when it was bought; long before the current high levels of interest around these watches.

We recently acquired a large amount of dead-stock MN webbing that the French diver used to make watchstraps, as seen on the Tudor MN77 that resides in the Tudor Museum. This watch will come on a prototype B&S NATO-style strap made from this exclusive material. Stay tuned for an upcoming MN strap project later in 2015!
